For my project, I chose to do two serials of photos. The first is a serial of headshots. All of the individuals are students studying abroad at the University of Stirling from the United States. For the second serial, I asked each individual to write a word on their hand that described how they were feeling about the study abroad program coming to an end and leaving Scotland. The images in the two serials are in different orders to make the viewer think about which person goes with which hand. The purpose of this collection was to demonstrate that there are many different emotions that can be felt towards the same event. To break up each serial, I chose to have the last picture be slightly different from the rest.

Kailin Cannon: Pictorialist Midterm
My pictorialist images were created through a sunglasses lens, a piece of plastic smeared with lipstick, and a green piece of glass as well as several pieces of clear tape stuck together and folded over each other.
The outside of Hamilton Mausoleum, shot through a green piece of glass.
An alternate image of the outside of the Mausoleum, this time using a piece of plastic wrap that was smeared with pink lipstick.
The inside of the mausoleum, shot through green glass.
Another image of the inside of the mausoleum, this time through a pale lipgloss on plastic wrap
An image of the inside of the mausoleum shot through a clear-er spot in the plastic wrap in between the pink lipstick and the lip gloss.
Inside the Hunting Lodge, in the Duchess's quarters. This shot was taken through lipgloss on plastic wrap.
The same light inside the Hunting Lodge, this time shot through the lipstick instead of the gloss.
Inside the Duchess's quarters in the Hunting Lodge, shot through a couple pieces of tape stuck together.
A fireplace inside the Duchess's quarters, shot through several pieces of tape.
The exterior of the Hamilton Hunting Lodge, shot through lipstick smeared over plastic.

Kellie Kuzmuk: Pictoralist Photography Assignment
Image 1: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Chatelherault in Hamilton, Scotland Hallway leading to Duchess’s waiting room Filter: plastic wrap with hole Caption: Repetition, although not exact, is created through the reflection of the light in the glass casing. Where the light shines in the wall coincides with the hole in the plastic wrap so it is an exact light but the plastic goes over the light that shines outward form the wall, giving the photograph an interesting and unrealistic atmosphere, which is characteristic of pictoralist photography.
Image 2: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Outside
the Hamilton Mausoleum
Image 3: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Chatelherault in Hamilton, Scotland;
Banqueting Room Filter: mesh from orange container Caption: The red coloring of the photograph
seems out of place and smeared over the light, as if a mistake or spilt paint
from a painter. The photograph
also displays the intricate plaster work of the ceiling, which is meant to be
subdued by the mesh. Also the red
cover the image of Bacchus, the go of wine, which is meant to display
pictoralist photographer’s portrayal of history and symbolism in their
photographs as a painter would do in paintings. The red color was also chosen to reinforce the symbol of
wine.
Image 4: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Chatelherault in Hamilton, Scotland;
Banqueting Room Filter: Green openwork scarf Caption: This image was captured to emphasize the materialization of
pictoralist photography. The focus
is the three light bulbs, one of which is cropped to lead the eye down to the
gold metal work.
Image 5: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Chatelherault in Hamilton, Scotland Filter: Side
of a body wash bottle Caption: The
plastic blur the image into a soft, romantic light. The banding the bends in the plastic creates makes the image
look surreal.
Image 6: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Chatelherault in Hamilton, Scotland,
Duchess’s Waiting Room Filter: sheer shirt Caption: This image depicts natural light shining through the arched
and two matching windows into the empty space of the room, revealing an almost
smoky atmosphere.
Image 7: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Inside the Hamilton Mausoleum, Scotland Filter:
plastic wrap Caption: The plastic
wrap has a very subtle effect over the mage, just softening it slightly. The natural light reflecting off the
floor juxtaposes the symbol of the sun on the dark floor. In the center of the sun, the natural
light leads the eye right to the feet of a figure standing in the center, a figure
cropped without a face, whose identity is unknown. The other 2 sets of feet on the floor offer repetition.
Image 8: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Inside the Hamilton Mausoleum, Scotland Filter:
plastic wrap Caption: the candles on top of the sarcophagus casing draw the viewer
from the largest figure in front, to the light in the back corner of the
photograph. The letter from the
name “Alexander” is present in the photograph, drawing on pictoralist
photography’s emphasis on history.
Image 9: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Inside the Hamilton Mausoleum, Scotland Filter:
plastic wrap Caption: The image was selected to emphasis pictoralism’s focus on
light and shadows. The figures
standing cast shadows on the floor that obscures the natural light coming in
the door. The eye is redirected to
the top of the photograph, the direction in which all the feet are uniformly
facing.
Image 10: Date: 29/06/12 Location: Inside the crypt at the Hamilton Mausoleum,
Scotland Filter: plastic wrap, folded over twice Caption: The reflection from
the plastic wrap whitewashed the photograph, highlighting the dark squares
where the bodies lie. The focus is
the brightened point, the rounded edge, that is only half shown in the
photograph. This point lacks the
most detail so the first detail view’s encounter and the lights protruding from
the brightest point.
Jordan Dorsey: Pictorialist Project
My Picorialist photos were composed with the use of a glass bottle filter. Other filters were used in photographing the Chatelherault Hunting Lodge and the Hamilton Mausoleum, such as plastics, clothing, etc.; however, for composition purposes only the glass bottle photographs are exhibited in this project.
This photo was taken in the Chatelherault Hunting Lodge of our tour guide after he explained the significance of the upper apartments (shot through brown glass).
This photo was taken in the Chatelherault Hunting Lodge of a classmate sitting in a chair in front of a window facing the Hamilton Mausoleum (shot through a brown glass bottle).

Samantha Parke: Midterm
For my filters I used serveral silk shirts (red, green, pink, and white) as well as a filter function on my camera.
Hunting Lodge Window: Shot through a red shirt.
Giving it soft focus and less saturation.

(If you look closely the reflection of candles is present in both window shots.)
