Kimberly Wallingford- Midterm Project

I tried many different filters to see which ones worked best.  I ended up with these 4.  A crumpled plastic baggie, a plastic page protector sleeve, sunglasses (tinted slightly purple), and a plastic lid.

Duchess' Chambers
Filter- Plastic Page Protector
This photo was taken inside the Duchess' Chambers using the plastic page protector sleeve as a filter.  The filter softens the image and blurs the edges, bringing focus to the flowers in the center.  This follows the pictorialist style of having the background blurred with the object of interest in focus.

Filter- Plastic Page Protector
I chose to shoot this photo in black and white to highlight shadows and contrasts.  The filter softens the natural light coming in through the window, giving the photo a soft glow.  This photo also has a timelessness about it because monochrome coloring and the view out the window is slightly blurred, removing specificity from the picture

Chatlheuraut Gardens
Filter- Sunglasses
The window panes frame the photo and draw your eye down and towards the right where most of the garden is.  I used my sunglasses for this shot because the purple tint changes the perspective by altering the natural colors of the garden.

Mausoleum
Filter- Crumpled Plastic Baggie
The filter helps to soften the sharp lines of the mausoleum.  This draws the eye more towards the outlines of the building.  I chose to include some of the trees around the building to relate more to the pictorialist ideas of shooting the landscape.  The black and white shows contrast better and causes an almost vignette effect on the bottom half of the photo.  The filter blurred the edges, bringing focus to the center of the photo.

Hunting Lodge Banquet Room
Filter- Plastic Lid
This filter softens the image ever so slightly that it almost goes unnoticed. The only way to tell there is a filter being used, is to look at the details.  It is hard to make out all of the details because everything is slightly blurred.  The lighting in this room naturally draws attention to the woman in the corner.

Chatlheuraut Garden Entrance
Filter- Plastic Page Protector
I chose to include the small puddle in front of the door because of the reflection shown in it.  Pictorialist Photographers explored shadows and reflections in their photos.

Chatlheuraut Gardens
Filter- Sunglasses
The tint from the sunglasses gave the flowers unusual colors. I chose to include parts of the sunglasses in the photo to add a vignette effect.

Mausoleum
Filter- Sunglasses
The natural light shining in through the window was dimmed and tinted purple by my sunglasses.  The purple enhanced shadows.  This photo also includes multiple sets of 'twin towers' that were found in much of ancient architecture.

Mausoleum and Crypt
Filter- Sunglasses
The slightly off-centered angle of this photo adds depth and changes perspective.  With the purple sunglasses, some things were tinted more purple than others adding variety to the color scheme of the photo.

"Life" Sculpture Above the Crypt
Filter- Plastic Page Protector
This filter softened the image but still allowed the details of the sculpture to show.  Pictorialists were interested in proving that it took skill and human effort to create a good photo, much like it took human skill and effort to create this sculpture.
