Rachel Carmen: MIDTERM

I brought several filters with me, but only a few proved to be consistently successful. The filters I brought were: crinkled transparent plastic, clear tape stuck together, green water bottle with water, mesh lingerie bag and blue/white patterned cotton scarf. The plastic and the scarf seemed to work the best, although I did get a few good shots with the water bottle and the mesh bag. Here are my top pictorialist-style photos:

Light fixture in Chatelherault Hunting Lodge
Shot through green water bottle with water
The water distorts the lighting, giving the photo an eerie and suspenseful feel

Duchess' Apartment -- Portrait on Wall
Shot through mesh lingerie bag
Following pictorialist style of focused subject with softened/blurry background

Touring the Duke's apartment
Shot through clear plastic
Ian Jeffrey's description of artistic photography idea of waiting for subjects to match up with natural leading lines

Great Room at Chatelherault
Shot through clear plastic
Distorts the light and gives the photo a softer look and feel

Chatelherault Garden
Shot through blue-and-white cotton scarf
Creates the illusion of timelessness, due to the nondescript white door and softened focus

View of Estate, Chatelherault
Shot through clear plastic filter
Sprawling landscape with leading lines (the plants pointing towards the horizon), all with slightly softened focus

Back of Chatelherault
Shot through blue-and-white cotton scarf
Shows a less-commonly-seen aspect of the hunting lodge, with texture from the scarf superimposed onto the photo for design

Garden path, figure with umbrella
Shot through blue-and-white cotton scarf
The garden and dirt path show timelessness; figure with umbrella was happenstance that added to the emotion of the image

Lions at Hamilton Mausoleum
Shot through blue-and-white cotton scarf
Main subject with blurry background gives the focus to the lion and his stance on top of the pillar
