Katie Moraczewski - Excursion Photos

Figure 1: Tool Kit

This is a picture of the tool kit that I brought along on our excursion. Included was a clear plastic bag, a white plastic bag, a bit of a brown paper bag with a hole in the middle, a crinkled napkin, a piece of green pre-wrap, a piece of black paper bag with a hole in the middle, and a small box to fit my lens inside and attach the materials onto. Although it is not shown in the image, I breathed onto the camera lens to fog and distort the image as well.

Unfortunately, most of my images were created with the use of the plastic bag or breathing technique because the other tools didn't create as nice of photographs that contained a strong Pictorialism feel.

Figure 2: Chatelharault Hunting Lodge

This shot of the hunting lodge was created with the use of a clear plastic bag held across the lens of my camera (see Figure 1 for plastic bag). The results are a blurred effect with a soft focus, making the photograph feel like a painting. The plastic bag was a great tool to create this effect as the bag screens the image and distorts a clear picture.

Figure 3: Small Creek in New Lanark

This image of a creek was created by fogging up the lens with my breath before snapping the shot (see Figure 1 for breathing reference). The results are a blurred effect that almost appears like a painting created with a soft brush with dab-like strokes.

Figure 4: Trees near the Chatelharault Hunting Lodge

This shot of trees in the forestry around the hunting lodge was made from a combination of fogging up the lens of my camera and using the clear plastic bag in front of the camera as well (refer to Figure 1 for tools). The result is a blurred effect with a soft focus that exaggerates the lighting and ambiance of the picture.
Figure 5: Flowers near the Chatelharault Hunting Lodge

This image was shot in the gardens of the lodge and was created with the use of the clear plastic bag in front of the lens (see Figure 1 for plastic bag). The blurred result makes the image appear like a painting instead of a photograph as the bright yellow of the flowers is illuminated and glows in a dreamlike manner.

Figure 6: Trees and Sky near the Chatelharault Hunting Lodge

This was shot looking straight up into the sky from the forestry and was created by breathing onto the lens before taking the photo (refer to Figure 1 for tools). The result is blurred once again, and has a unique style because the focus of the image becomes blurrier from left to right. It almost feels like a hybrid of a painting and photograph all in one image.
